It’s official: the sun’s going down a little earlier, the leaves are changing color, and the whiff of pumpkin spice is in the air. Fall is upon us and it’s a beautiful time of year — especially on the Adirondack Coast! There are no shortage of exciting events happening to ring in the season, either. If you’re visiting the Plattsburgh area in the near future, be sure to check out these three essential happenings.

LAKE GEORGE VILLAGE OKTOBERFEST

This annual three-day festival turns Canada Street into a European street fair! Taking place this year from October 10 to October 13 in the Lake George Village, Oktoberfest is a celebration of tradition, music, food, and drink. Festivalgoers will get to try authentic cuisine like bratwurst, as well as delicious local craft German-inspired ales and lagers. Don’t forget to try the brews from the Adirondack Brewery! There’ll also be live music performances from polka bands, artisan vendors, carnival rides, keg tosses, and much, much more.

THURMAN FALL FARM TOUR

Fun for the whole family! Take in the storied history of 200-year-old farms (including a goat and sheep farm) and get a taste of New York country life with this unique self-guided tour. Running on October 12 from 10 am to 4 pm, the day will also feature plenty of activities for children like animal encounters and the “trebuchet punkin chunkin’.”  Stop into Oscar’s Adirondack Smokehouse for an all-you-can-eat pancake breakfast — and makes sure to ask for some of the sausages. It’s a local favorite!

GORE MOUNTAIN HARVEST FEST

From October 12 to October 13, take advantage of the beauty that is Gore Mountain with its annual Harvest Fest! Take a scenic gondola ride and enjoy autumn-themed recreational activities abound, from field games to opportunities to go for a hike or a bike ride. There will also be local artisan vendors selling handcrafted items like furniture made from reclaimed wood, paintings, locally made wines and spirits, jewelry, pottery, and bath products. Plus, you’ll definitely want to dig into the food offerings — apple or pumpkin pie, anyone?
