It seems hard to believe, but 2020 is nearly upon us! With the year flying by so quickly, it’s never too early to start planning your trip to the Adirondack Coast. And February is one of the best times to visit, especially with your family. Why? Because that’s when the Lake George Winter Carnival kicks off its’ 59th year!
The carnival has been an Adirondack wintertime tradition since 1961. Set against the beautiful Lake George and running every weekend throughout February, the fair features everything from chili cook-offs to races and tournaments on ice. And there’s something for every member of the family. There are so many children’s activities such as pony rides, dog talent shows, wagon rides, and face painting. In addition, you can watch ice-diving demonstrations or take a refreshing a polar plunge if you’re feeling especially brave. The foodie in your troupe will love the variety of cook-offs (chicken wings and chowder, to name a few), while the adrenaline junkie will enjoy 4×4 truck races and a “Glacier” golf tournament.
Warm up in between these fun activities with hot chocolate and refuel with some tasty s’mores or you can indulge in an ice cream sundae with all your favorite toppings. Make sure you catch the spectacular fireworks show every Saturday at 6 pm. If you’re here on the carnival’s first weekend, take part in the Opening Ceremonies and follow the parade along Canada Street.
The Lake George Winter Carnival is a time-honored institution, providing family fun and entertainment to residents, neighbors, and visitors from afar.
